US delays expected

Travellers heading for America have been advised to expect long delays while increased security checks take place. The increase in security is due to a Nigerian man boarding a flight to Detroit with explosives hidden in his clothes.

Baggage searches as well as body searches are being stepped up so travellers have been told to arrive early to accommodate the additional time needed for the searches.

Those carrying wrapped gifts for family will be made to unwrap them and the final hour of the flight will see all passengers be made to return to their seats, seat belts fastened and with nothing on their laps.

Travel insurance is a must at a time like this as delays and cancelled flights can leave you out of pocket and out of a holiday. If you miss your flight it can have a huge knock on effect on the rest of your holiday bookings.

Even when there isn't an increase in security causing havoc for travellers, lost luggage is a common complaint and travel insurance will ease the pain of replacing all your lost items. The type of holiday you have booked will determine the level of insurance cover you will need. A regular beach holiday won't need as much cover as a motorcycling holiday. So make sure you tell your insurer what your plans are to ensure you are adequately covered.
