Damaging neighbours

Damaging your own property with a DIY disaster is one thing but having your neighbour do it is quiet another. DIY fans regularly cause large amounts of damage to their own homes but now they are managing to upset the neighbours too.

The biggest problems occur with damaged pipes leaking and sending showers of water into the adjoining properties. Walls and ceilings sustaining damaged plaster thanks to heavy handed neighbours is also a big problem. These little incidents are costing everyone about £200.

Depending on the lay out of the property or the building you could end up footing the bill yourself if you aren't sure who has caused the problem. In a lot of cases you will be left to split the repair bill with the neighbour. This applies to flats too, with neighbours above and below, who knows what problems this may cause.

You can get around this by claiming on your neighbour's home insurance. It may push their premium up a bit but that isn't really your concern, as long as you get your home repaired and don't fall out with your neighbour.
