Is it accidental?

When it comes to any insurance claim the insurer needs to know what happened and this will define if you get compensated or not.

So when it comes to a problem in the home is it accidental and how do you define accidental? Any accident that happens suddenly, or is caused unexpectedly by a non-deliberate external action which results in harm to your property or its contents is considered as accidental damage.

The cause of damage can be your pet or a visiting God child and you can be sure if there are animals and children around there is great potential for an accident. If they manage to hurt your TV or digi box then that will be covered by your contents insurance. But if you extend your accidental cover it means if your child decides to paint the carpet you are covered.

Also DIY disasters will also come under accidental damage even if they are the standard nail through water pipe type of accident. However cleaning related accidents don't usually qualify under many polices.

General wear and tear you won't get away with so if your Hifi packs up after ten years of use then that won't be covered, but if you drop it accidentally and break it that way then it will be covered.
